Zinedine Zidane’s decision has left many scratching their heads. Football fans far and wide are clueless. Nobody can imagine why one of football’s most successful coaches would leave such an incredible team. Especially during a moment where Zidane deserves more accolade then he has ever received before.

Although this all seems confusing, Zidane’s decision actually shows how much of a professional he is. During a press conference Zidane explained why he chose to resign as Real Madrid’s head coach.

I know it is a bit of a strange moment but I think it is the right moment. This is a team that should keep on winning and it needs a change for that. After three years, it needs another discourse, another working methodology, and that’s why I took this decision,” explained Zidane according to the Guardian.

Despite the success Zidane has had at Real Madrid he believes the club needs something new to continue winning. Real Madrid is a team with a long history of legendary players that had unbelievable amounts of talent. Even in the present, Real Madrid are a force in football. Instead of boasting about how many trophies he has won or demanding a bigger contract, Zidane has humbly decided to step down and allow the club to grow. Absolute class.

The relationship Zidane has had with Real Madrid is nothing short of a dream come true. His time as an attacking midfielder for Real Madrid boasted countless moments that left the world in awe of his phenomenal skills.

Zidane has undoubtedly helped to define the midfield position. During a time where the game of football was more about passing and playmaking instead of goal scoring, Zidane truly thrived as an attacking midfielder. Whether it was during the World Cup or against powerhouse teams in Europe, Zidane has proved his worth on the football pitch.

The legacy of a legendary footballer can never be complete without its fair share of controversy. Football fans can never forget the infamous headbutt that Zidane gave Italian national Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup. Zidane is classy guy but also knows when to flick the switch.

Regardless of the large endorsements deals earned and trophies won by Zidane, he didn’t want his legacy to end as just a football player. Instead, Zidane challenged himself and took on the role to manage the team he played for. More than two years later, Zidane has led Real Madrid to nine titles including, one Spanish Super Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, one Spanish league title and two Club World Cups. Not too shabby, right?

Zidane’s life has been a true testimony to the game of football. The smooth transition from midfield magician to head coach of the most formidable team in Europe has shown Zidane's full capabilities and passion for the beautiful game. Whatever Zidane does next, fans will only expect the best from the Frenchman.
